My approach in therapy is primarily person-centred and relational. A person-centred approach ensures that I recognise the unique life experiences of each individual and meet them where they are at, in their journey of change and growth. Instead of acting as the expert, I invite the client to lead the process and help me understand how to best support their individual journey based on what works for them and what doesn’t.
As the process unfolds, the therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist becomes a map to understand how the client relates to themselves, to others, and to the world around them. Thus, the question that I ask myself while working with an individual is: “How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for their own personal growth?”
Psychoeducation is an integral part of my approach and my hope is to create a collaborative dynamic with the client where they feel empowered to make decisions and choices that align with their values and goals. Other than that, I also like to incorporate frameworks of psychodynamic, existential, parts work (IFS), somatic work, CBT, and expressive arts, based on the individual requirements and preferences of each client. I believe there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to healing and therefore, my approach as a therapist involves flexibility and respecting the wisdom of all paths that lead to desired change.
